Fiber laser source upgrades

More power. More work through the same machine.

Spec a higher-power laser source on a new Koenig fiber laser, or have our team assess the fiber laser you already run. MAX, Raycus and IPG sources from 1.5kW to 30kW, sized to the materials and thicknesses you actually cut.

Why fabricators move up in power

The laser source sets how fast and how thick your machine can cut. If jobs are queuing at the laser, or you are sending thick plate out, more power is often the cheapest way to add capacity without adding a second machine.

Faster on the sheet you already cut

Higher power lifts cutting speed on thin and medium sheet, so the same shift gets through more parts and your lead times come down.

Bring thick plate back in-house

More power raises the maximum thickness you can cut. Work you currently subcontract can stay in your shop, along with the margin.

Cut with air on more jobs

With enough power, compressed air can replace nitrogen on a wider range of stainless and mild steel jobs, which can reduce gas cost per part.

Handle aluminium, brass and copper

Reflective metals need the right source and enough power. We recommend any IPG power, MAX at 3kW to 6kW and above, or Raycus at 6kW and above.

Quote work you turn away today

Thicker material, tighter deadlines and bigger runs all become jobs you can price with confidence instead of passing on.

Room for the next contract

Buying a little more power than today's work needs leaves headroom for the customer or product line you win next year.

Which power suits your work?

A guide to where each power band usually fits. Your specialist will confirm the right source against your materials, thicknesses and volumes, and can share cutting data for the machine you are looking at.

Source power Typical work Often suits What else to plan for
1.5kW to 3kW Thin to medium sheet. Enclosures, brackets, signage, panels and light fabrication. First fiber laser, or a shop moving off plasma or outsourced cutting. Standard machine setup. Lowest running and purchase cost.
6kW General fabrication across mild steel, stainless and aluminium, with faster speeds on everyday sheet. Job shops with a broad mix of materials and thicknesses. Starting point for reflective metals on Raycus. We recommend a 6L or larger extraction filter at 6kW and above.
12kW Production cutting, thicker plate and high daily throughput. Fabricators running long shifts or replacing outsourced plate work. Higher-rated cutting head (BOCI BLT 6 series at 12kW and above on the LF3015GA) and a 415V supply. We confirm the electrical requirement for your site.
20kW to 30kW Heavy plate and high-volume production. Structural, heavy engineering and production plants. Larger electrical supply, chiller and extraction. 30kW site requirements are confirmed with your Koenig representative.

Available power depends on the machine model and source brand. Cutting speed, maximum thickness and edge quality depend on material grade, assist gas, nozzle and settings.

Choose your source brand

We supply three source brands so you are not locked into one price point. Your quote can compare them side by side on the same machine.

1.5kW to 30kW

MAX

Covers the full power range. For aluminium, brass and copper we recommend MAX at 3kW to 6kW and above.

1.5kW to 30kW

Raycus

Covers the full power range. For aluminium, brass and copper we recommend Raycus at 6kW and above.

1.5kW to 6kW

IPG

Available up to 6kW. We recommend IPG at any power for aluminium, brass and copper.

Not sure which to pick? Tell us your three most common jobs and the thickest material you want to cut. We will recommend a brand and power, and explain the trade-off in price.

Already own a fiber laser?

A source upgrade can lift the output of a machine you already know, without replacing it. It only works if the rest of the machine can handle the extra power, so we check that first and tell you plainly whether an upgrade or a new machine is the better buy.

Send us the make, model and current source power using the form below. Photos of the machine's compliance plate and cutting head help.

What we check before quoting an upgrade

  • Cutting head power rating, optics and cooling
  • Chiller capacity for the new source
  • Electrical supply at your site
  • Assist gas and compressed air supply
  • Fume extraction and filter size
  • Controller, cable and software compatibility
  • Warranty position on the machine and source

How it works

  1. Tell us about your work
Materials, thicknesses, volumes and the machine you have or are considering.
  2. We size the source
A specialist recommends power and brand, and checks head, chiller, power and air.
  3. Get a written quote
Machine and source options side by side, with lead time and site requirements.
  4. Install and training
Our technicians commission the source and train your operators on new settings.

Common questions

Can any fiber laser be upgraded to a bigger source?

Not always. The cutting head, chiller, electrical supply, gas and extraction all have to suit the higher power. We check each of these before quoting. If the upgrade would cost close to a new machine, we will tell you.

Which source brand should I choose?

It depends on your materials, the power you need and your budget. MAX and Raycus cover 1.5kW to 30kW. IPG is available up to 6kW. For aluminium, brass and copper we recommend any IPG power, MAX at 3kW to 6kW and above, or Raycus at 6kW and above.

Will I need a new chiller, compressor or extraction?

Sometimes. Higher power generally needs more cooling and extraction, and air cutting needs a high-pressure, dry air supply such as our 20 bar compressor. Your quote lists anything else your site needs, so there are no surprises at installation.

Does a bigger source change my electrical requirements?

Yes, power draw rises with source power. For example, the LF3015GA at 12kW and 20kW runs on a 415V supply, and we confirm the amperage for your machine and site before you order.

How long does it take?

Lead time depends on the source brand, power and stock at the time you order. We confirm the timing in your written quote.

Can I finance it?

Finance is available on new Koenig machinery for business buyers, subject to approval. See finance options or ask your specialist.
